The Campaign „Youth for Trencin Region“

The idea of young people from Trencin Regional Centre of Student council secondary schools in Slovak Republic has become a reality. The campaign called “Youth for Trencin Region” was created as a project to increase the participation and active cooperation between young people and local governments. Main aims of campaign are to increase interest of young people in public affairs and promotion their education, especially in informally way.

JEF Slovakia on an international training on European citizenship in Iceland

A small harbour city Akranes on Iceland’s west cost became a temporary “home” for 34 young people from 8 European countries during an international training “EUROPE – IT´S YOU!“ from 3-8 July. Lenka Jancova, Dominika Dudasova, Michal Tkacik and Norbert Kucharik from the organisation Young friends of Europe (JEF Slovakia) got also the possibility to participate. In this way they could not only get to know the young pro-European leaders, but also the breathtaking Iceland’s countryside.

774 percents difference in phone call prices across the EU

Mobile users across the European Union face huge price differences for the same services. The biggest price difference is in domestic mobile calls – a 774% difference between Lithuania, the cheapest country, and Netherlands, the most expensive.

ROCK THE UNION! An interesting project to encourage greater participation in the 2014 European Parliament elections.

Every five years the European Union citizens elect their representatives – Members of the European Parliament, who represent their interests at European level. The European Parliament elections are characterized by ever-decreasing voter turnout. Interestingly, the participation of Slovak citizens in the European Parliament elections in 2009 was the lowest among all the Member States of the European Union. There are several factors that influence the election turnout, one of them is undoubtedly the voters indifference about European union matters, and at the same time lack of public awareness on activity and importance of the European Parliament in the system of European institutions.

New flow of optimism

After publishing the results of a spring Euro-barometer, we are very pleased to announce this positive news! It says that 19 from 28 countries of the EU (do not forget! Croatia became a new member state of the EU on the 1st July 2013) seethe future of the EU in more positive lights than in negative.
