European Charlemagne Prize looks towards the future.

European Parliament and the Foundation of the International Charlemagne Prize of Aachen invite young people from all EU Member States to participate in a contest dedicated to the issues of EU development, integration and European identity.

European Charlemagne Youth Prize looks towards the future, carrying a responsibility to talk about the ethical content of our society. It is focused on the commitment of European ideas, protection of oppressed people, and giving them an opportunity to secure their future. This award is based on the three basic pillars: freedom, peace and humanity.

European Charlemagne Youth Prize is awarded for the project, which promotes the European understanding, development of European identity and integration. What is more, it encourages young people to be active, not to give up but instead to follow the motivation in order to transform their ideas into reality. Running now the 7th year of its existence, the Foundation of the International Charlemagne Prize in cooperation with the European Parliament award the prize to projects written by individuals or organizations.

Deadline for a submission of applications is until 20 January 2014. All information needed and application form is available on the official website of the Charlemagne Prize.

The selections are made in two stages. The first phase is national, where a national committee composed of MEPs and representatives of the youth choose the best project and consequently it is moved forward into the narrow European selection round, with 27 member states as candidates. For example, in 2013, a total of  13 projects representing Slovakia were registered in a competition.

Annually, the best project receives 5 000 EUR, the second best one 3 000 EUR, and the third one 2 000 EUR. In addition and apart from the financial rewards, three winners will receive an invitation to visit the European Parliament. The representatives of each of the 27 national projects selected will be invited to a 4-day trip to the city of Aachen in Germany. Moreover, the prices for the best three projects will be awarded by the President of the European Parliament and a representative of the Foundation of the International Charlemagne Prize of Aachen.

Therefore, we would like to encourage you not to give up your ideas but rather to give them a chance to be realized. In fact, the Charlemagne price may be that right move to start with!
