Women and the economic crisis

The European Parliament organized a seminar on “Women and the economic crisis” in early March in Brussels. The seminar was attended by journalists from across the EU as well as by special guests from the European Parliament, the European Commission and the third sector, including several MEP, Vice-President of the European Parliament and Commissioner Viviane Reding. The European Dialogue represented by Miroslav Hajnoš was also present there.

We discussed the most recent European Commission proposal for the greater representation of women in supervisory boards of the European bodies. The seminar was connected with a screening of the movie LOUISE WIMMER and consequent reception. The journalists also attended the “Interparliamentary Committee meeting” with the participation of the members of national parliaments as well as the Committee on Women’s Rights and Gender Equality.

In addition, I would like to remark that the Committee on Women’s Rights and Gender Equality consists mostly of women, but the chairman is the Swedish MEP Mr Mikael Gustafsson. Slovakia is represented by MEP Edit Bauer, Anna Záborska and Katarina Neveďalová, who attended the roundtable discussion “How are the women facing crisis?”, in Nitra.

During the seminar I had a chance to meet and discuss the issues with our MEP Miroslav Mikolášik.
